Bump that Sticks out on my Bottom

This post is a response by a doctor to a question one of our community members asked.

Karina Asks:

I have had this bump for 2 days now. It was not as bad. But it hurts to walk. Today i noticed it has gotten bigger. Still less than a inch in length. And i touched it and is squishy like i can pop it. Its painful. I am 21 years old and i have no idea what it is. I thought it was a mosquito bite but it is not itchy just painful.

Dr Edin’s reply:

Based on your description, it sounds like you might have an abscess (puss formation) under your skin. In most cases, it presents as a small acne-like bump, which increases in size over the course of a few days together with redness, swelling of surrounding area and pain. When touched, the person usually feels stronger pain. In most cases, it is caused by a small skin wound which gets infected by bacteria. The usual treatment method is surgical drainage of the abscess and antibiotics. However, to be sure that you got an abscess, you should visit your doctor and get an examination.
